Intro

Sometimes, it feels right to take a step back from writing about music and movies and just share a little bit more about who I am.

This week felt like the right time for that. Think of these as short breaks, a few small glimpses into my life, the things I’m into, and the moments that stand out.

I hope that by opening up a bit more, I can help build the kind of community I imagine for this magazine. One where people connect through shared interests, feelings, and everyday moments that make life feel a bit more human.

“I wanted to create a space where art is talked about in a personal way.”

Where It All Started

I am Jason. I grew up in Texas, but in 2019, my wife, Maximus (our small dog), and I, packed up and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area.

When I’m not writing, you might find me watching sports—especially hockey and baseball—or experimenting with music.

My Writing Style

I try to write the same way I would talk to a friend after watching a movie—honestly and casually. I want my writing to carry the same emotion and excitement I feel when something moves me.

I wanted to spend my days doing something that felt meaningful. My work life had started to feel repetitive and uninspired, and I found myself thinking about what actually brings me joy.

The answer was simple. Music and movies have always been what I turn to—the things I talk about endlessly with my wife, my friends, or anyone who will listen.

That realization became the spark for this magazine. I wanted to create a space where art is talked about in a personal way. Not as a list of ratings or reviews, but as honest reflections that remind us we’re not alone in what we feel. My hope is that the same joy I find in writing is something others feel when reading.

Every emotion seems to hit at full volume, and music has been the soundtrack to it all.

Getting to Know My Taste

To give you a better idea of who I am, here are a few of my favorites.

Favorite Music Genre

Pop will always be home for me. I listen to a little bit of everything, but I always find my way back to pop. You’ll see that reflected in the songs and albums I write about.

Favorite Artists

It’s hard to choose favorites, but these are a few of the artists I keep coming back to:

Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Paramore, Young Miko, Mac Miller

Favorite movie genre

Thrillers, horror, romantic comedies, and animated films. I love stories that make me feel something, whether it’s tension, comfort, or pure joy.

Favorite Movies

The Truman Show, 500 Days of Summer, anything with the Minions, and the entire Saw series.

The End

That’s a little more about me for now.

I’d love to hear from you — what’s your go-to movie or artists? Leave a comment below and I might just write about it next!

  1. “Shrek” is my forever animated fave. If I want something funny, “Rush Hour”—they truly don’t make them like that anymore. And for a rom-com, “13 Going on 30” always hits.

Artist-wise, I’m big on storytelling: Amy Winehouse, MF DOOM, and old Kanye (we can fight about it later).
