Do Not Disturb: An Album With No Skips

A review of Young Miko’s fun new album

Intro

Everyone has heard of Young Miko by now. She is taking the world by storm, and if you haven’t listened to her yet, now is the perfect time to start. After making a strong entrance with her EP Trap Kitty and her debut album ATT., Young Miko is back with her second studio album, Do Not Disturb, and it is fantastic.

The Album

Young Miko, the Puerto Rican rapper who has quickly become a global force, delivers an album filled with hits. She steps into this project without hesitation and delivers. Do Not Disturb feels like a clear expression of her confidence and her fully formed sound.

This album is a nice change of pace from the emotionally charged music usually discussed in this magazine.

Her wit and lyricism shine through in every track and are some of Miko’s strongest skills. It’s the kind of album you replay to catch all the clever lines and wordplay you might have missed the first time.

While ATT. was confident, it still had moments that felt a little reserved. Do Not Disturb, on the other hand, is overflowing with confidence. It feels classy and elegant while still being bold, playful, and sexy. The sound is also more complete and mature than in her earlier work. This project shows that Young Miko knows exactly who she is as an artist and isn’t afraid to show it.

The production on this album stands out almost immediately. When listening to the project for the first time, you can hear the strong influences from her personal musical taste.

Standout Tracks

For each track, I have highlighted a section that deserves several replays. The lyrics need to be digested and broken down to be fully appreciated. They highlight one of Miko’s strongest abilities.

Sexo de moteles

1:15-1:57

This track highlights Miko’s ability to tell a story. It is undeniable that the song is about a late-night call, but Miko manages to make it romantic. It is a very sexy and playful song that still carries undertones of love and respect. This one is one of my favorites lyrically. Miko uses vivid details that paint a clear picture for the audience, and the second verse captures this perfectly.

Piki

1:28-2:15

This one is pure fun. The production is great, and it is definitely a track that needs to be played loud. Miko follows a clear formula, opening with a slower verse that draws the audience in, then delivering a second verse full of strong visual lyricism.

Ojala

0:11-1:12

Ojala is one of the songs on this album that shows Young Miko’s ability to make a romantic song while still slipping in bold, seductive lines that reveal a more intimate side of love. The song’s production also sets it apart from other love songs with its upbeat instrumental breakdown.

Sin Pausa

3:21-4:13

This one is one of the slower breakdowns on the album, but don’t overlook it. It still brings a special kind of rhythm that later transitions into a classic Miko flow, including the great wordplay and phonetic sounds she loves.

Algo Casual

1:40-2:45

A song about a casual relationship falling apart after someone catches feelings. Even with its catchy beat, it showcases an intense vulnerability. On an album filled with songs that celebrate the rush and fun of casual relationships, this one reveals a softer, more emotional side of the story Young Miko is trying to tell.

The Ending

Miko brought the heat in her sophomore album, both lyrically and production-wise. The album is hit after hit, and the perfect choice for a night out. If you enjoyed this album, make sure to explore her other work. If you can’t decide where to start, Tres Tristes Tragos is a personal favorite.
